About Don't Fret

Don't Fret Duo

Don't Fret was formed in spring 2016 when Tom and Nick decided to get together to play a few songs on an Open Mic in the Blue Anchor, Brixham. They knew immediately there was a musical "click" which just needed a little tweaking. For many months they ran a Sunday afternoon Jam Session at The Rising Sun, also in Brixham, where they had an opportunity to play together and jam with other local musicians. Since then they have played all over Torbay: in pubs, at festivals and private parties, and they have also hosted many Open Mic/jam sessions.

Tom and Nick are known for the banter between themselves and their interaction with the audience. They are always up to the challenge of accepting requests if either of them know the song which, in some cases, has resulted in some of these songs being added to their mammoth playlist.

Tom and Nick also have DJ experience so Don’t Fret can offer live music with a DJ set for larger events.

Tom Beattie

Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Ukulele

Tom starting playing guitar at the age of eleven.  After spending many frustrating hours trying to figure out why it didn't sound quite right (his father finally told him the strings had to be tuned to specific notes) he had a couple of guitar lessons but found it easier to learn by himself. Tom is heavily influenced by the Eagles, Status Quo and Eric Clapton.  He played in school talent shows and at Christmas parties, slowly becoming more confident. He started writing songs and singing but it wasn’t until he moved to Brixham in 2014 that he realised he could do it for a living! In early 2016, after playing a random jam session with Nick in a local pub, he knew there was potential to collaborate as a duo. Don't Fret was born and the duo have been playing gigs all over Torbay ever since.

Nick G

Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar, Harmonica

Nick has been playing guitar since 1994 when he found his fathers acoustic guitar and decided he'd like to learn.  His father encouraged Nick to find out how to tune the guitar and to learn at least one song before taking guitar lessons. Nick chose the classic 'Stairway To Heaven' and went back to his father 6 months later when a guitar lesson was arranged. Sadly this did not go very well so he too decided to teach himself.

He locked himself away for a long time, learning classic riffs and songs. He is heavily influenced by Gary Moore, Zakk Wylde, David Gilmour, and Tom Petty to name but a few. He has played with many bands as lead guitar, including a band with his brother in 2006/7. In 2008 he moved to Greece where he formed a rock/punk band and  returned to England in 2011. He ran many Open Mic sessions while living in Reading, Berkshire but decided to move to Devon in early 2016. Very shortly afterwards he met Tom, decided to return to acoustic guitar and Don't Fret was formed following a random jam session in a local pub.
